In the last several decades, no sport has seen such a meteoric rise in popularity than that of NASCAR. And there is no other city in the world that represents NASCAR like Mooresville. Also known as "Race City, USA", Mooresville is home to over 60 NASCAR teams and businesses, including Dale Earnhardt, Inc. and Penske Racing. Itÿs also where many of the drivers call home during the off-season. The North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame acts as the townÿs visitorÿs center, and the NASCAR Technical Institute, which trains participants to be NASCAR technicians, is also located here.
While itÿs definitely the primary attraction, there is much more to Mooresville than just NASCAR. The city is only minutes away from the stunningly beautiful Lake Norman, the largest man-made body of fresh water in the state. Created in 1959, the lake stretches over 500 miles of shoreline and offers a countless amount of outdoor activities.
Many people enjoy the lake for boating and water-skiing, while those interested in fishing can catch the catfish, largemouth bass, and perch that inhabit the waters. Take a sightseeing or dinner cruise on the Catawba Queen, or visit the Lake Norman State Park, where you can experience an outdoor camping and hiking adventure.
In addition to lake activities, Mooresville also possesses a large amount of shopping, dining and nightlife. Many area restaurants combine the flavor of local seafood with traditional Southern cuisine, and the lake plays host to a constant variety of night and weekend events. It seems thereÿs always something to see and do in Mooresville. Just like the sport that calls this place its home, Mooresville is on the fast track to becoming one of North Carolinaÿs most popular cities.
